Fright Fest Six Flags St. Louis

Fright Fest at Six Flags St. Louis

Fright Fest at Six Flags St. Louis is a seasonal Halloween event. In the weeks leading up to the holiday, the park is transformed into a spooky but still family-friendly theme park. With haunted houses and new shows to help entertain you. Here we will break down what is great and what needs improvement with Fright Fest at Six Flags St. Louis.

The Haunted Houses of Fright Fest

The actors at The Slaughter House are humanoid Pigs.

For the year 2021, they have a collection of four houses. The first three are very family-friendly and one that is legit scary. Starting us off for the less intense ones is Uncaged. It is an outdoors haunted attraction where genetically altered animals have taken over a small town. Good for seeing a bunch of old Six Flags St. Louis props. Next up we have Oddball’s Funhouse which is a clown-themed haunted house. Truly a funhouse with scary clowns. Lastly, we have Creatures of the Corn which is like a haunted corn maze. It is also outdoors and is our favorite of the less intense ones. Does a good job of being mildly scary but still having a good sense of fun.

Photo opportunity has a picture frame, some corn, and two locals.

In the very much not for families category we have The Slaughter House. This one is themed to pigs that have started walking and decide it is humans that they will now eat. Filled to the brim with scary set pieces and disturbing images. If you are only going to do one haunted house we recommend this one because it is truly a great one.

The Shows of Fright Fest

The park has a great collection of shows to frighten and entertain you. The headline is Love at First Fright. This is performed in the Palace Theatre and concerns two lovers who take a stroll in the graveyard and find monsters. It’s one the whole family can love.

Another one for the families is over at the Empire Theatre with Johnny Magic. A combination of comedy and magic that has made him a crowd favorite for years.

Dead Man’s Party has a troupe of female dancers rocking out to music. Performed on the Palace Theatre steps. This one didn’t work for us but does seem to be a pretty popular show each year.

Likely the one most people are excited for is Freaks Unleashed. This show separates the mild daytime from the scarier nighttime thrills. A show is performed on the Palace Theatre steps which end with a group of “Freaks” being brought on the train to terrify everyone. It is quite the spectacle. Not meant for kids or those that don’t enjoy being scared.

For the Kids

There is a lot for the kids to do during Fright Fest. The whole park is fine till after the Freaks Unleashed show. Once that happens you will have to make your own decisions on what is okay for your kids. During the daytime, there is great stuff like Simply Spooktacular Storytelling. A story is read to them and at the end they get candy.

Simply Spooktacular Storytelling has kids sit on mats on the floor.

If you do stay past dark there is one of the haunted houses we will recommend. Creatures of the Corn is fun and shouldn’t be too scary for most kids. Something like a Haunted House that kids can do in the daytime is Captain Pete’s Pirate Adventure. Kids will get dressed up as pirates and be the star of a story to free Captain Pete. Really great fun for kids of a certain age.

More leveling up with Hurricane harbor as the back drop.

Things to know

You will also get everything that the park already offers. The Roller Coasters and Flat rides run during the event. But this does come with a warning if it is the rides you are most excited about. There is no doubt that the park is at its busiest during Fright Fest. They hit capacity most Saturday nights. So if you are coming to ride all the coasters this could be the worst time of year for it. Lines that are normally 10 minutes will be over an hour.

One of the creatures is shown in daylight which is all black and crouched like a bird.

If you are heading to Fright Fest at Six Flags St. Louis expect to do some waiting but have a great time. Yes, the crowds are huge but that is because it is so much fun!
