The Slaughter House at Six Flags St. Louis

The Slaughter House is the premier haunted attraction for Fright Fest at Six Flags, St. Louis. It is located right between the River King Mine Train and Moose Burger Lodge. The theme is that pigs somehow are walking and have taken to running The Slaughter House now. The only issue is that it is humans that they have a taste for now.

The Slaughter House Experience

Every year this is the most popular of the haunted attractions. So make sure to budget that into your time. The House won’t open until after the Freaks Unleashed show has ended and it is close to dark. Once you make it through the normally very long line you will be greeted by one of the piggies. They will give you the rules which consist of stay together, no pictures, and if you are going to freak out please leave now. Once all agree they will open the door and the fun begins. There are two sections here. The first is outdoors underneath the main part. Here you walk around with scary imagery to set the mood.

The second part is up the stairs and inside the building. Once inside there will be strobing lights, claustrophobic spaces, and tons of jump scares. If you survive and don’t become dinner, then you will walk out into the night safe once again.

The Slaughter House: The Good

Most of the haunted attractions at Six Flags St. Louis are good with your expectations in check. The only one that we think is high enough quality to be good regardless of it being inside a theme park is The Slaughter House. It is by far the longest and most well thought out of them. The first part (outside) sets the mood with dreadful anticipation. The second part is one frightening encounter after another. It feels like walking through a terrifying dream.

The best element for us is one that will kill those who suffer from claustrophobia. We won’t spoil it but it comes at the end. But there are tons of other parts that are almost as good. A caged encounter, walking past a pig with strobe lights going, and loud banging noises give this one an unrelenting pace.

Since there are no photos inside the house this is what you can expect once inside.

The Bad

While we like the first half for setting the mood it is a lot of unused space. Might be that staffing issues make it sparse but a couple of encounters there would have improved this.

Final Verdict

The Slaughter House remains the best-haunted attraction at Six Flags, St. Louis. It really isn’t even close. Truly frightening stuff awaits those brave enough to visit these piggies. Our expectations of what a haunted house at a theme park were far exceeded by this one. Because of these reasons The Slaughter House gets a ten out of ten.
