Sea Dragon at Worlds of Fun Review

Sea Dragon at Worlds of Fun has been operating since 1994, designed and manufactured by Chance Morgan from their Pirate Ship model. Riders take to the high seas to be swung back and forth till their stomachs drop. It offers all the incredible family thrills you expect from a ride like this. It is also one of the best-looking rides in the park!

Sea Dragon at Worlds of Fun Experience

Scrambler sits towards the front of the park in the Scandinavia section, past Nordic Chaser and Scrambler. While this can attract a lot of riders, it is rare to wait in a long line. Riders must be 48 inches to ride alone, but anyone under 48 inches can enjoy the fun if an adult accompanies them. Riders can sit three or four per row. You will be kept safe by a shared lap bar. Once the ride attendant has checked all restraints, prepare for that stomach drop feeling!

The ride will swing one way and then the other when it begins, constantly picking up more and more momentum each time it does. Yelling when your side of the ship is swinging up is highly encouraged, which always makes this ride a blast! After about a minute and a half, the boat will slow down. When it does come to a complete stop, the ride attendant will release your restraint. You can now exit the ride safely.

Sea Dragon at Worlds of Fun: The Positives

For a good reason, a ride like this is in almost every theme park. They have great capacity, interactions with the other rows are fun, and the airtime is constant! However, that airtime is also very unique to a ride like this. That feeling when the boat has lost momentum and will start to swing the other way never gets old. Also, that airtime stomach drop is unique to the swinging pirate ship ride.

Visually this is a stunning ride. Most swinging Pirate Ship rides will sit on dry ground. Over the years, we have seen a lot that had water but now sits in an empty tank. At Worlds of Fun, that is not going to happen. This sits on a picturesque body of water. Sharing the reservoir that Viking Voyager sits in. It is a shame that more theme parks haven’t thought to do the same.

The Negatives

We only have two minor issues for Sea Dragon at Worlds of Fun. First, this ride is visually stunning, but you can see some wear and tear. It opened in 1994, and it does show its age. It isn’t distracting to most riders, just us theme park enthusiasts that pay attention to the small details.

Second, this is another ride that Worlds of Fun has that almost every theme park has. So while no one will be taking road trips to ride Sea Dragon, it still stands out as one of the best installations of this ride type we have come across.

Final Verdict

Sea Dragon at Worlds of Fun is an excellent addition to the park. The ride experience offers everything you would expect from a pirate ship. However, the theming and the beautiful body of water it sits on make this stand out! Yet it is impossible to get very excited about a ride like this since it is just the same as every other park you have ever been to has this same ride. Still, it is a solid addition to this park’s stellar lineup of flat rides. Because of these reasons, Sea Dragon at Worlds of Fun gets a nine out of ten.
