Holiday World Roller Coasters

Holiday World Roller Coasters

Holiday World Roller Coasters are an impressive collection. However, it is the quality and not the quantity at Holiday World that helps this collection stand out as much as it does. Most well known for having a Trilogy of wooden coasters in the Raven, Legend, and Voyage. Then they have two steel coasters which consist of the kid coaster Howler and the wing coaster Thunderbird. Here we will be breaking them down so you know which ones are the best.

Holiday World Roller Coasters Disclaimer

These are just our opinions. While of course, we think ours is the right list others may disagree. Though with the Holiday World Roller Coasters we think you will find just about as close to universal agreement as can be possible. Partly because of the lower number but Holiday World has a way of trying to outdo themselves which makes each coaster added better than the one before it. Well almost.

Holiday World Roller Coasters least exciting coaster is 5. The Howler

Howler running around the track

The Howler is by far our least favorite of the Holiday World Roller Coasters. But that is a little unfair to this kid coaster. Howler is made only for kids. We do like that adults can ride it but be warned that it is a tight squeeze. So there isn’t much to Howler but it does the job. It introduces many kids to the love of roller coasters. The nice-looking trains also help this coaster stand out.

The oldest coaster in the park comes in at 4. The Raven

The Raven's station house looks like an old mansion.

Starting off their trilogy of wooden coasters is the classic The Raven by Custom Coasters International. Raven goes out into the woods and thrills with many drops, tunnels, and turnarounds by the water. The setting and theme really help make the Raven special. But it has gotten pretty rough over the years. Not the worst we have ever ridden but it does take away from the experience. This is also the milder of the wooden coasters here. The Raven is riding that line between thrill and family coaster.

Getting into the real thrill coasters with 3. The Legend

The Legend Roller Coaster lift hill has a slight right turn before taking its first plunge.

The Legend was the second coaster added to Holiday World and is the second in their wooden coaster trilogy. Again Custom Coasters International did the honors. It improves on just about everything that The Raven was trying to do. The hills are bigger and the turns are sharper. Really The Legend is way more about the sharp Turns. Best known for having one of the most intense elements on a coaster in the Double Helix. Be warned though. How aggressive the Legend is does have a drawback in how rough it feels. The Raven is rough but The Legend is much rougher. Again we don’t think it is so bad as to kill the experience but it is very noticeable. This is a coaster we love but could never marathon.

Launching into the number 2 spot is Thunderbird.

Holiday World Roller Coasters has this excellent Thunderbird launching from the station themed to a barn.
The smoke from the launch is such a nice touch.

Thunderbird is a launching B&M Wing Coaster. In our opinion, it is the best of this model ever built. Starting off with an excellent launch this coaster has no boring elements. Great inversions and fun near misses make Thunderbird truly an outstanding coaster. Also, it gives the park some variety. We love wooden coasters but the addition of a world-class steel coaster like Thunderbird really helped in diversifying this collection.

Holiday World Roller Coasters get no better than The Voyage.

The coaster taking another sharp turn on its final run to the station.

The Voyage is by far the best of the Holiday World Roller Coasters. It is number one by a mile! The Voyage is simply put one of the greatest roller coasters ever built. To complete its trilogy of wooden coasters Holiday World pulled out all the stops. This coaster is one of the longest and most thrilling coasters you will ever find. Not one element on this coaster is lackluster. From the amazing first drop, to the underground tunnels, and turns that are sharper than you would think possible The Voyage has it all. A beautiful setting out in the woods help enhance this one even more. Almost any complaint one could find with this coaster would be stretching.

We think that all the coasters at Holiday World are great. Yet it is because of the Voyage we recommend making this a destination park for alone. It is simply inconceivable that anyone that likes roller coasters wouldn’t have the time of their life on this masterpiece! Kudos to Holiday World and the designer The Gravity Group for making The Voyage.
