The Voyage Roller Coaster

The Voyage Roller Coaster at Holiday World

The Voyage Roller Coaster has been in operation at Holiday World since 2006. Designed and manufactured by The Gravity Group with trains supplied by Philadelphia Tobbagan Company. This is the grand finale of the wooden roller coaster trilogy at Holiday World. The Raven and The Legend are good coasters, but The Voyage is a masterpiece. This is the crown jewel of the roller coasters at Holiday World.

The Voyage Roller Coaster Rider Experience

The Voyage Roller Coaster is located in the Thanksgiving section of the park. It takes its name and theme from the initial pilgrims “Voyage” to America. You must be at least 48 inches to experience this coaster. Riders are secured by a lap bar and a seatbelt. Once the train leaves the station you are brought up one of the biggest first hills you will ever see on a wooden coaster. What follows is one of the most intense and thrilling experiences we have ever had. Constant pops of airtime, the sensation of speed, turns banked so hard that they look impossible, and on and on.

The Voyage Roller Coaster: The Good

This ride is a masterpiece of engineering. With a lot of coasters, you do that first hill and from there it begins to lose more and more momentum. We cannot fully explain it but this ride never seems to slow down! The second part of the ride after the mid-course brake run actually feels faster than the beginning!

The first drop feels unreal. It drops at such a steep angle that you will be out of your seat the entire time. The pops of airtime feel like they never end!

Whatever it is about a wooden coaster that you like The Voyage Roller Coaster will have it. Not just have it, but will do it perfectly. If you love sharp turns then this coaster’s second half will blow you away. If you just love speed then this coaster never lets up.

Sometimes with coasters that have amazing speed, they are shorter. The Voyage never feels like it is going to end! It is the only roller coaster we can ever remember thinking at one point my arms were getting tired while it was going.

The Bad

We are going to be stretching here coming up with something negative. But if there is a complaint to be had about The Voyage Roller Coaster it would be that the theming is paper-thin. It is our opinion that theming will always make a ride better. With Voyage, it was barely an afterthought. Doubtless, you will care while hitting one of its 5 underground tunnels about the theming.

Also, we never like a Mid-Course break run. But for the sake of not killing the track and the trains, it is there. With how intense this coaster is with it, then it may have been the right call. The park does put on a yearly coaster event called Holiwood nights. They turn the brakes off and the coaster is even crazier.

A Roller Coaster built for enthusiast!

Holiday World is one of the most enthusiast-friendly parks. When they were designing the Voyage they were building it with them in mind. Former park President Will Koch has said as much. They were trying to build the ultimate coaster for those of us who love coasters. If you consider yourself a lover of roller coasters then you need to take “The Voyage” to Santa Claus, Indiana to experience what this masterpiece has to offer. Ride it in the front for the best visuals and a smoother ride. Ride it in the back if you want to have the best ride possible.

Final Verdict

This is one of the finest pieces of thrill entertainment ever constructed. A coaster with universal approval. To repeat ourselves, this is a masterpiece. Everything you could ever want in a wooden coaster in one long ride. Because of these reasons, The Voyage Roller Coaster gets a ten out of ten. Never even considered a lower score!
