Philadelphia Toboggan Company

Philadelphia Toboggan Company (PTC) is arguably the most historic company still operating in the roller coaster space today. Their founding goes all the way back to 1904! They produced many roller coasters until the late 70s. Since then they work as a supplier of wooden roller coaster parts. Their classic PTC trains are still the industry standard on wooden coasters.

You see back when they started the business of roller coasters was just really getting started. Today we call the vehicles on roller coasters, trains. Toboggans at the time, since they were only single cars that were sent on the track at that time.

Philadelphia Toboggan Company Legacy

As of this writing, PTC had built 127 roller coasters. All of which were wooden. While most of them have been closed by now. Though there are still some classics still out there. Like Phoenix at Knoebels Amusement Park. Also the masterpiece Screamin’ Eagle at Six Flags St. Louis.

Originally at Playland Park as Rocket. Was relocated to Knoebels in 1985 now with the new name of Phoenix.

More than coasters

PTC was about more than coasters when they were still producing rides. Their Carousels are world-famous. Known for their beauty and craftsmanship. Hardly any still operate in their original location. The fact that so many of them still operate is a testament to PTC. They made them built to last.

From Philadelphia Toboggan Company to Coasters

Voyage at Holiday world was made by the Gravity Group but runs with PTC trains.

In 1991 is when the name change took place. What was formely Philadelphia Toboggan Company became Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters. Since then they have been improving many operating PTC coasters. In addition they also will supply parts and supplies to any park that is operating a wooden coaster. They continue to innovate and assist the wooden coaster community to this day.
