American Plunge at Silver Dollar City about to send a log over the big hill.

American Plunge at Silver Dollar City

American Plunge has been in operation at Silver Dollar City since 1981. This is a log flume ride that will take passengers down the river, through some tunnels, and finally to the Plunge. American Plunge is well-themed and checks a lot of the boxes it should. Still, this doesn’t feel like the complete package. Regardless of some issues, this is still a great family ride and is always fun on a hot day.

American Plunge the Good

American Plunge making a big splash in its finale.

American Plunge has a quality feel to it. The Boats are well-themed as Tonic barrels instead of the standard Logs. Also if there was one thing to get right on a ride like this it would be the finale. The Plunge is an excellent end to the ride. The Barrels feel like they are going faster than would be usual for a ride of this type. Since this is Silver Dollar City they pay attention to the small details. Those kinds of details are giving great areas to view the plunge. It can be seen well from the queue line and also they even added a bridge to get great views and pics of your loved ones as they are getting soaked.

American Plunge the Bad

The issues we had with this stem from how slow the rest of the ride is. Once your barrel leaves the station it goes slowly through some light theming. The Tunnels were fun but there isn’t anything really to them. I prefer rides of this type to have some turbulence and give some speed prior to the big drop. The theming and plunge are great but the rest of the ride can be just a little boring.

A pic from the queue line shows a barrel going over Niagara Falls.

Final Verdict

For a park filled with quality attractions, American Plunge sticks out as a little lackluster. The park recently tore down and built a newer and better water rapids ride called Mystic River Falls. It might be worth it for the park to make the same kind of investment for this ride as well. I don’t want to give the impression that this ride is bad. It just isn’t great and it sticks out in a park as great as Silver Dollar City. On a scale of 1 to 10, we give American Plunge a 5.

Pros: A great drop, decent theming, Feels well maintained

Cons: Besides great finale feels boring

Shows the loading and unloading station for the ride. Rustic looking and filled with nice little touches.
