Dawn Jankovic loved roller coasters. One of her favorite ways of riding them was with her son. They would travel to many theme parks together to experience them. Dawn Jankovic and her son were visiting Holiday World for a roller coaster enthusiast event called Holiwood Nights. While there they boarded The Voyage Roller Coaster. Tragically by the time, the train made its way back to the station Dawn Jankovic was unresponsive. She would later be pronounced dead while at the hospital.
Dawn Jankovic loved The Voyage
The Voyage is universally loved by roller coaster enthusiasts. Designed and manufactured by The Gravity Group with trains supplied by Philadelphia Tobbagan Company. This is one of the rare coasters that was built specifically for hardcore coaster lovers. The coaster event she was attending is made so popular because the park takes this already crazy ride and makes it crazier. At Holiwood nights they turn the brakes off. What this means is that at no point will they slow the ride down to let you catch your breath.
The Voyage even with the breaks turned on is an extremely intense ride experience. Only enthusiasts who understand how crazy it is going to be are allowed to attend. On the first day of Holiwood Nights, she was riding it with her son before the event. Not at night with no brakes. Then what caused her death?
Dawn Jankovic cause of death
After an autopsy, it was found that she had died from an artery tear that happened while she was riding. Once this occurred she then bled out internally. All signs point to this just being a freak occurrence. Her body had a bad reaction to the forces of the coaster for whatever reason on this ride. It doesn’t appear that negligence on part of the staff, the coaster, or Holiday World contributed in any way to her death.
Conclusions
While this was a tragedy we do see a silver lining in this. Dawn Jankovic died doing something that she loved, while in the company of someone she loved. What is so heartbreaking is that she was still so young. She was only 47 at the time of passing. She will be remembered as a loving mother who loved roller coasters.
