The Gravity Group Roller Coaster Designers

The Gravity Group began designing roller coasters in 2002. They design modern wooden roller coasters for theme parks across the globe. Well known for their ability to build thrills into a compact space.

The Gravity Group Beginnings

Their beginnings can be traced back to Dinn Corporation. After a mildly successful run they folded and from that team came Custom Coasters International (CCI). They were more successful than Dinn Corporation but they also folded. Instead of one company rising from the ashes this time two formed. Some formed Gravity Group’s biggest competitor called Great Coasters International. While the others formed the Gravity Group.

The Gravity Group has success right out of the Gate.

With a lot of coaster startups, you will see small-time projects early going. Not so with Gravity Group. Their first two projects were Hades and The Voyage. Hades showed that this company would think outside of the box in providing big thrills no matter the plot of land given. Hades actually dips into a tunnel and goes under the parking lot at Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park!

The coaster taking another sharp turn on its final run to the station.

It is their second coaster that was the deceleration that this company was here to win. The Voyage at Holiday World is one of the greatest wooden coasters ever built. Winning Golden Ticket awards for best new coaster for the year it debuted. It wasn’t done yet. It went on to win best wooden coaster four years in a row.

Innovation

Both Hades and The Voyage proved that the company could build anything wooden coaster-related. Then they set out to bring new innovation to the space. Along with their sister company Gravitykraft Corporation, they designed the most versatile trains for wooden coasters called Timberliners. To this point, almost every wooden coaster would have the classic Philadelphia Toboggan Company’s trains.

These new Timberliners trains allowed for a much more compact turn to be introduced. Which was important for the thrill of a coaster but also to make it easier to build a more compact coaster in a small plot of land. As a result of what the new trains could do they worked again with Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park to enhanced Hades and made what we presently know as Hades 360. To demonstrate what they could now do a 360-degree roll was added.

Continued Success

The Gravity Group shows no signs of slowing down. With coaster installations across the world, they are making coasters and keeping Great Coasters International on their heels. One area of the market that they seem to mostly control is the family wooden coaster. These offer good thrills but in a less steep package. Take for example Oscar’s Wacky Taxi for Sesame Place. It rides like a modern coaster but parents can ride it with their children and not worry about it scaring them to death.

It will be exciting what future innovations the Gravity Group will bring us. This company which has a long tradition with wooden coasters is continuing with what Charles Dinn started so long ago. Any theme park would benefit from having Gravity Group work their magic and provide innovative and just downright fun to their guest.
