Howler at Holiday World

Howler at Holiday World

Howler has been in operation at Holiday World since 1999. Designed and manufactured by Zamperla from their Family Gravity Coaster line. Holiday World really does have a great collection of Roller Coasters. We wouldn’t say that it has much to do with Howler. However, this is a kid roller coaster. Because of that, it needs to be judged as a kid coaster. It is a fun experience for the young ones but is pretty uncomfortable for adults.

Howler Ride Experience

The trains are dispatched from the station into a very small chain lift hill. You bank to the right and into a little dip. This leads to the helix and one more little hill before making a right turn back into the station. Once back into the station the attendant makes sure everyone wants to go again. If someone doesn’t, they let them exit the ride. You will always get a second lap if you are wanting one.

Howler: The Good

It is always fun to be with a child when they are on their first roller coaster. A roller coaster like Howler was designed for just that kind of experience. When we are visiting the park it is a constant flow of young kids having a blast on this thing. Watching young ones conquer their fear and get on this never gets old. Any kid ride that lets kids and their parents ride together will get extra props from us.

As for the coaster itself, our favorite aspect about it is the well-themed trains. They help enhance the experience of this roller coaster.

The Bad

No grown adult will describe this as a comfortable experience. They built the train to accommodate adults, but they didn’t build it with adults in mind. To ride this with your kid is to sacrifice. However, you won’t get beat up or anything like that. I will just say I was relieved when the coaster was over and I was able to stand up again. Though I don’t think what adults think matters very much for a coaster like this.

We could complain about how there isn’t much to this ride but that isn’t the point. There is a big difference between a family coaster and a kid coaster. Howler is very much a kid roller coaster. The fact that there isn’t much to it shouldn’t really be a complaint with it.

Final Verdict

Howler is a very good addition to Holiday World. While we think that the park should invest in a family coster at some point that won’t take away from Howler. They need to bridge the gap from this to Raven which riders cannot experience until they are 48 inches. Still, for what Howler is trying to be it does it well. Nice-looking trains that give young kids a fun first experience with a roller coaster. Because of these reasons, on a scale of one to ten Howler gets a six and a half.
