Scoops Hand-Dipped Ice Cream at Kentucky Kingdom serves up creamy goodness. Ice cream and theme parks go so well together. Scoops is about as good as it gets for ice cream at a theme park! All ice cream lovers will find their fix here.
Scoops Hand-Dipped Ice Cream Experience
Scoops Hand-Dipped Ice Cream is located at the front of the park. Walk past FearFALL on your way to Cyclos. Before you reach Cyclos this will be located to the left. You order from a walk-up window with the option of one or two scoops. We figured since it was called Scoops, and not Scoop, we better opt for the two scoops. You know, for research!
The Ice Cream is supplied by a company called Velvet Ice Cream Company. You can get it in a cup or a cone. We chose the Sundae option with Carmel and Oreo’s. You can also get a soda, cotton candy, or popcorn. Once you have your dessert there is a bunch of red tables that give an excellent view of Lightning Run to watch while enjoying.
Scoops Hand-Dipped Ice Cream: The Good
Before having our Sundae, we had never heard of Velvet Ice Cream Company. They are based out of Ohio and let us tell you, they make fantastic ice cream! Great Ice Cream needs to have a more cream taste than ice. Cheap ice creams use lower-fat milk, and so have a more Icy consistency. The vanilla ice cream we had was perfect. Just about as good of ice cream you will find in or out of a theme park.
As you can see from the photos they didn’t skimp on the toppings. It was spilling over with oreo and caramel! It is always good to see this type of thing. Food options at theme parks aren’t exactly cheap. We think parks would be wise to offer a premium experience like this is. Scoops Hand-Dipped Ice Cream doesn’t serve anything cheap. This is a great destination for your sweet tooth when not riding the roller coasters.
The Bad
We have virtually no complaints here. We always prefer an inside dining area to stay out of the elements. However, with Scoops Hand-Dipped Ice Cream, we find it hard to complain. We had a blast watching the beautiful Lightning Run while enjoying our dessert. But if forced to give a real negative, we would say the ice cream scoops could be bigger. They go for it on the toppings, but the actual ice cream size could leave some wishing for more after finishing. Maybe adding the option for a three-scooper could fix this. We would try that! You know though, for research.
Final Verdict
Scoops Hand-Dipped Ice Cream at Kentucky Kingdom is a great addition to the park. For your dessert option, you have this or Bluegrass Bakery, which is very close by. You have a one-two punch of fantastic dessert options. But as for Scoops, they have done an incredible job. The ice cream is delicious and the toppings are plentiful! While we still wanted more when it was done we cannot say for sure if that is a knock against them or us. We think everyone will be blown away by the quality of this stand. Because of these reasons, Scoops Hand-Dipped Ice Cream gets a nine out of ten.
