Kingdom Hot Chicken at Kentucky Kingdom has been serving up chicken sandwiches and seasoned waffle fries since 2021. This is a stand, and not a full restaurant. They serve only a couple of items. Regardless of its limitations, this is by far the best food you can purchase at Kentucky Kingdom. From our experiences, it isn’t even close!
Kingdom Hot Chicken Experience
Kingdom Hot Chicken sits about halfway into the park. Right past Up Up and Away and before Scream Extreme. The operation here is as simple as it gets. You line up and have a choice of three items to eat. They have a Southern Style Chicken Sandwich, Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich, and waffle fries. Since this is a stand there is no seating inside. However, there is an okay selection of tables and chairs right next to it. While you are eating everyone can argue about what is better Kingdom Hot Chicken or Chick-fil-A.
Kingdom Hot Chicken: The Good
For the record, we think that this beats Chick-fil-A! Heck, this is easily the best theme park food we have had since visiting Silver Dollar City! Starting with the 2021 operating season the same company that owns Silver Dollar City and Dollywood took over operating Kentucky Kingdom. When they did, they opened two places to eat. This and Blue Grass Bakery. Both become the best options in the park as soon as they opened. Again it isn’t even close.
While most of the restaurants at Kentucky Kingdom are like Casa Mia or Swamp Water Jacks. They take the “give them everything” approach; while here it is simple. You either want a regular or a spicy chicken sandwich, and the only side you can get is waffle fries. So instead of trying to please everyone which requires a huge kitchen, where everything is cooked together by the same people, here it is simple. This allows the quality control to be high. The workers only need to do a couple of things. My goodness, the result will knock you out!
We cannot oversell this. Maybe our favorite fried chicken sandwich we have ever had was the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich. Add in that combo with the delicious seasoned waffle fries and a Dr. Pepper and you have a meal that beats just about anything in a theme park or out of it!
The Bad
Since this is a stand, there is no indoor dining. Add to this is the fact that it is so good that the line gets long and the limited seating gets taken. We had to eat on a bench a little ways away. Don’t get us wrong, it was totally worth the hassle, but a place this good needs some more permanent seating, and just more of it.
As mentioned above this place gets busy. So you will have to wait in a pretty big line each time you want to eat here. Again we will tell you that it is worth it every time. But it is still something to keep in mind.
Final Verdict
Kingdom Hot Chicken is an amazing addition to the park. Its simple menu gives few options, but those options, we think will blow you away! The only issue is with its long line and limited seating. These are only issues because the place is so darn good, that it gets crowded. If you only eat once while at Kentucky Kingdom make sure it is here. Because of these reasons Kingdom Hot Chicken gets a nine out of ten.
