5D Cinema at Kentucky Kingdom has been in operation since 2014. Manufactured by SimEx-Iwerks which specializes in experiences like this. This is a short movie-going experience that is also sort of a ride. Perfect for families and anyone looking to sit inside for some air conditioning.

5D Cinema at Kentucky Kingdom Experience.
The timings and what show will be on are viewable at the theatre. For our experience, it was the Yogi Bear movie. You line up on the side of the theatre and a couple of minutes before it begins a ride attendant will let you in. They will assign you a seat which will coordinate to which row you will need to find. Once there you can sit down and must buckle a seat belt. The ride op will give some safety information and ask if everyone is ready. Once the all-clear is given the fun can begin!
When it starts a promo will come on for the company that made this experience. Followed by the real experience. Regardless of what show is playing your chair is going to move (mostly) in motion to the actions on the screen. There are also wind effects and little things like that. The show lasts approximately 15 minutes. Once it is over you are safe to unbuckle and leave the theatre.
5D Cinema at Kentucky Kingdom: The Good
We will give extra points to any ride that really thinks outside the box. Theme Parks are littered with 100 different ways to make a ride spin. So experiences like the 5D Cinema at Kentucky Kingdom are a welcomed change. Kudos to the park for adding in this very unique experience.
On a hot summer day in Kentucky, it is great to go sit inside the air-conditioned theatre. The ride is just a bonus at that point.
For the most part, the motions that your chair does coordinate with the actions on the screen. It is a very unique movie-going experience that does heighten the movie.
The Bad
There is nothing subtle here. The chairs go crazy trying to make motions coordinate. Now, this might be just because it is 15 minutes long. However, it would be very unpleasant to watch a normal-length movie with the chairs going nuts as they do. This is just a proof of concept but if the chairs moved less it would actually benefit this ride.
The action didn’t always match up super well. This was just our experience with the Yogi Bear showing in 2021. So we cannot tell if it will be the same for your experience later. It was very distracting when it would happen.
Final Verdict
5D Cinema at Kentucky Kingdom is a good addition to the park. Very outside-the-box thinking of a ride. A nice air-conditioned experience to boot. It does tend to make the movements way more pronounced than they need to be which can be unpleasant. Overall this is a fun ride that changes shows from season to season. Which makes sure to keep this one fresh through the years. Because of these reasons, 5D Cinema at Kentucky Kingdom gets a seven out of ten.
