Autobahn at Worlds of Fun

Autobahn at Worlds of Fun

Autobahn at Worlds of Fun has been in operation since 1973. Designed and manufactured by Reverchon Industries from their Bumper Cars line. Originally opened under the name Der Fender Bender but was changed to its current name in 1997. These are the perfect family attraction. The ability to get into a car and hit things just never gets old. But of course, it is done in a family-friendly and most importantly, safe way.

Autobahn at Worlds of Fun Experience

Located in the Europa section of the park. Right across from Falcon’s Flight and Flying Dutchman. Drivers and passengers will need to be at least 48 inches tall. We rarely see this ride get much of a line. So unless it is snaked out of the station the wait for these is usually pretty low. Once inside the structure, you can choose which car you want. You will be kept safe by the shoulder strap that is so common with rides like this. Once the ride attendant has checked everyone’s restraints the Bumping can begin!

When the vehicle start moving you can start bumping everything in sight. This is one with the concrete divider which we always think helps with the flow of the ride. The ride duration is about 2 minutes at which time the vehicles will lose power. Once the car has come to a complete stop you can undo the restraint. You can now exit the ride safely.

Autobahn at Worlds of Fun: The Good

We think Bumper Cars is one of the essential ride types that every theme park needs. Most groups won’t make it just because of them but they are a ride type that just about everyone in your party will want to ride. It is great having rides like a Bumper Cars so that there is those attractions that everyone wants to ride together.

The Bumper Cars themselves look great. Fitting the European car-theming perfectly. They look good and they have a decent enough speed to keep the crashing and laughter coming.

Autobahn at Worlds of Fun in a pile up.

This is a Legacy attraction for the park. It was a part of its opening lineup all the way back in 1973! That means that as guests have gotten older they have been able to have the consistency of this ride. Also, those that loved it as a kid are able to ride it as an adult and now ride with their kids. A ride this fun is easy to make memories on. That is if you are tall enough.

The Bad

The driver needing to be 48 inches is pretty standard across just about every theme park you will visit. Confusingly is the fact that the passenger needs to also be 48 inches. In just about every Bumper Car ride we can remember riding the passenger only needs to be 42 inches to get in on the fun. This exclusion of shorter riders really hurts this ride in the family attraction department.

The theming is minimal as the sparse photo shows.

The theming here is very lacking. The building looks nice and so do the cars. That is about it. Small things like making it look like a road would have been a tremendous help. Besides the theming is how small of a complex this has. Originally it was larger but they have shortened it over the years.

Final Verdict

Autobahn at Worlds of Fun are a good addition to the park. This is one ride type that we think is essential to a complete theme park experience. This installation has good looking cars with a nice-looking building. The height restriction on its passengers is the biggest fault. With just phoned-in-theming also keeping it down a little. Because of these reasons, Autobahn at Worlds of Fun gets a six out of ten.

Another pile up.
