Rock n Roller at Kentucky Kingdom

Rock n Roller at Kentucky Kingdom

Rock n Roller at Kentucky Kingdom has been in operation since 2018. Designed and manufactured by Zamperla from their mini Himalaya line. This is the kiddie version of the Himalaya ride that the park already has. Still, those who aren’t tall enough to ride that yet might like this. That is of course if the adult supervisors will ride with them.

Rock n Roller at Kentucky Kingdom Experience

Rock n Roller can be found directly in the middle of King Louie’s Playland. Right in between Flutterfly and Pounce & Bounce. The line is usually pretty low for this one; that is if it even opens that day. So there is no need to prioritize this ride over another. Riders must be at least 48 inches tall to ride this alone. However, anyone between 36 and 48 can ride as long as they are accompanied by an adult rider. A lap bar will keep both riders safe. Once the ride attendant has checked all restraints, then the fun can begin!

As the ride gets going the cars will begin to circle around the structure. On the track are also little bunny hills. Which means the thrill comes from two different places. First, the bunny hills won’t give any massive airtime moments but it helps break up the pace. The second is from the force you will feel to the right edge of the vehicle as this picks up speed. The ride will last about a minute and a half. When it has come to a complete stop, the ride attendants will unlock all restraints. Everyone can exit the ride safely.

Rock n Roller at Kentucky Kingdom has coaster looking cars of green and blue. In the center is a post with tons of light bulbs on it.

Rock n Roller at Kentucky Kingdom: The Good

We think of these rides as Roller Coaster simulators. They have the elements of a coaster but in a flat ride package. The bunny hills here are nice sized for the kids and they will love it. Which this ride has some decent speed for a kid ride. Again given that almost a roller coaster feels to it.

Also, the ride is newer and just looks really sharp. The seats are comfortable and the whole presentation just looks very high quality. A lot of times we think that kid’s rides don’t get all the bells and whistles of adult rides because their target audience won’t really care. Yet, stuff like that matters. This ride all lit up at night time is awesome looking.

While the height restrictions hurt this ride (more on that in a minute) it does accommodate adults well. The ride is actually comfortable, and the lap bar doesn’t have to crush you in order for both to ride. We will always give some extra points to any kid ride that lets the adults get in on the experience.

The Bad

As has been a common complaint in our reviews of the rides at Kentucky Kingdom, the height restrictions really hurt this ride. In order for kids to ride this alone, they need to be 48 inches! That means they will be tall enough to ride Lightning Run by the time they can ride this one by themselves! This is made even more ridiculous because the park already has the bigger version of this ride for anyone over 48 inches. In summary, the only reason to ride this is if the kid is between 36 and 48 inches and they will have to have an adult supervisor with them.

We have only ever seen this operating once. That might be because the height restrictions make this the last ride to open. We cannot be sure about that, but it makes sense. Also to be fair to the park it is possible we just had bad luck with it, and that it is open very often. Just be aware that it was our experience that this thing hardly ever opens.

Final Verdict

Rock n Roller at Kentucky Kingdom is a decent addition to the park. The ride itself would be great if the height restrictions didn’t make that difficult. Though in fairness to the ride, it is fun and the kids that get adults to ride it with them will have a blast. Because of these reasons Rock n Roller gets a four out of ten.
