Adventureland New Ride 2023 Announcement

Adventureland New Ride was announced on August 9th. There must have been a buy one get one free sale with the guru’s over at Zamperla since they are going to be building two rides for the 2023 season! Adventureland in Altoona Iowa has been making a lot of smart investments in the past years. With this announcement, it seems they are not going to be slowing down anytime soon. The two new rides will be a Viking-themed roller coaster and a log flume.

Adventureland New Ride Draken Falls

First up is Draken Falls which is a new log flume ride. Adventureland has been without a log flume since 2005 with the removal of River Rapids. Draken Falls looks to be a worthy replacement with its double-seating boats. Traditionally most log flume rides have single-row seating. With awesome Viking-themed boats and area, it looks Adventureland could have a real hit on their hands!

Draken Falls should appeal to thrill seekers and families looking to get some relief from the Iowa heat. Riders will need to be 48 inches in order to ride alone. However, anyone between 48 and 36 inches can ride if accompanied by an adult. Good for Adventureland to make sure that kids will be able to experience this new ride. Once the family is cooled off then they can go get dried off on the new roller coaster!

Adventureland New Ride Flying Viking

Flying Viking is going to be a family coaster with an emphasis on the younger kids. With only a top speed of 28 mph, it doesn’t look like Adventureland was looking to break any records with Flying Viking. What it lacks in speed it looks like they will make up for it with fun. The dragon trains look awesome and the yellow track is eye-catching.

The layout looks to have a few key elements. Slightly downward sloped track to gradually build up speed followed by a tight turn. The whole design just makes it look fun. Good to see that Adventureland understands that a family coaster doesn’t have to mean a boring coaster.

Again they are going to build this ride making it so younger thrill seekers can join in on the fun. You only need to be 42 inches to ride alone. However, anyone between 42 and 36 inches can ride with an adult!

The Theming Holds it all Together

Adventureland New Ride of Draken Falls and Flying Viking don’t just share similar theming. It is truly a ride combo. The entrance to one is an entrance for the other. The landscaping is shared. The rides will even interact with each other. Meaning it isn’t just two individual rides. They really are a package deal. Draken Falls will make Flying Viking a better coaster and vice versa.

Final Thoughts

We have thought for a while that there has been a theme park heating up in the midwest for a while. The investments coming from parks like Silver Dollar City, Worlds of Fun, Six Flags St. Louis and even the new Lost Island have Adventureland feeling the heat. It is our opinion that they are trying to make a play to not just be the regional park for local Iowans but to be a true destination park. The announcement of a new family coaster and log flume ride certainly helps strengthen their lineup and will have many taking notice of this beautiful midwest park.
