A Christmas Scarol at Six Flags St. Louis

A Christmas Scarol review at Six Flags St. Louis 2021

A Christmas Scarol takes the classic Charles Dickens novel A Christmas Carol and condenses it into 15 minutes. It plays during Holiday in the Park at Six Flags St. Louis. Highly recommended for families with children but all should still enjoy this take on a classic.

A Christmas Scarol Experience

The show is performed live at Sound Stage #2 which is by Spinsanity and Tsunami Soaker. You are able to choose any row to sit but kids are able to go right to the front at the edge of the stage. When the show starts Scrooge will give an introduction. From here it is rapid-fire dialogue with pop culture references. If all goes well, Scrooge will again learn the true meaning of Christmas within 15 minutes. Of course that all depends on if Marley doesn’t annoy him too much.

A Christmas Scarol: The Good

A Christmas Scarol is funny. Packed into its 15 minutes are multiple good laughs. Sometimes it is just the witty banter between Scrooge and Marley but often it comes from funny pop culture references. Every year they update it for current events. From Tiger King Season 2 to Baby Yoda, these jokes help keep the show fresh and full of laughs.

The actors are fantastic. The show is only 15 minutes and they have a lot of material to cover. The comedic timing is spot on. Yet it is the dialogue that impresses us the most. Kudos to the writer for condensing this so cleverly but also to the actors for being able to speak it. The cadence that the show has is very impressive. Watching the actors speak their lines fast and on point for the whole show makes this one worth watching more than once.

Even though this is condensed into 15 minutes the great themes and message from Dicken’s classic shine through. It could have been easy to just keep piling up the jokes about Baby Yoda and sacrifice the redemption of Scrooge. We are happy to report that this isn’t the case. In the short time given to them, they are still able to emotionally move you with Scrooge learning about charity, love, and the need for family and friends.

The set is made to look like Scrooge's home with his chair, writing desk, and bookcase.

The Bad

In years past they had the actor playing Marley perform the show with this ridiculous puppet as the character. Something about the absurdity of that really helped add a layer of strange that we really liked. For the 2021 version of the show, the puppet is gone. It doesn’t kill the show or really hurt it all that much. However, we do think that the show was better with it.

Final Verdict

A Christmas Scarol is short but a total blast. Six Flags St. Louis has a little gem with this show for Holiday in the Park. It is consistently funny, yet hits all the right themes. A great show for all ages. While we miss the puppet this is still going to entertain everyone in your group. Because of these reasons, A Christmas Scarol gets a nine out of ten.
