Liberty Launch has been in operation at Holiday World since 2003. Designed and manufactured by S&S – Sansei Technologies from their Double Shot model. Liberty Launch is a rather intense ride that builds a lot of anticipation.
Liberty Launch Rider Experience
Up to twelve riders can ride each cycle. You are secured by a seatbelt that is attached to your over-the-shoulder restraint. Once the ride begins you are raised a couple of feet off the ground. Wait around 10 seconds then blast off! You will have two hard shots upward. Then the ride will lower slowly back down to the ground. Once your restraints are unlocked, you are able to exit safely.
Liberty Launch: The Good
Over-the-shoulder restraints are usually the worst. Here Holiday World uses them as an advantage. The restraint does sit tight against you. Yet the restraint doesn’t sit tight on your shoulders. A good amount of airtime is coming your way at the top! Seeing it off-ride doesn’t do it justice. On-ride it is a violent moment when you launch.
The Bad
This double shot tower is rather small. Because of that even though the launch is fun it never feels out of control. If this was higher then it would allow even more of a thrust upwards. Also when you get to the top it just doesn’t look all that intimidating. Any type of tower ride should at least scare you with dizzying heights.
At Silver Dollar City they have one of these models called Firefall. One way they solved some of the problems with height was by enclosing most of the tower inside. Having ridden both, we walked away from Holiday World’s Liberty Launch less impressed. The only reason why is being enclosed like that gives a better sensation of speed.
Final Verdict
Liberty Launch at Holiday World was a great addition to the park. It is short, but it is a blast while it lasts. We wish that it was taller but that doesn’t stop this from being a lot of fun. This is a must ride for any thrillseeker. Because of these reasons, Liberty Launch gets an eight out of ten.
