Firecracker at Holiday World

Firecracker at Holiday World

Firecracker has been in operation at Holiday World since 2017. This restored Calypso was originally designed and manufactured by Robles Bouso. This is a spinning family ride themed to celebrating America’s favorite anniversary celebration. Recommended for anyone with younger children looking for a bigger ride.

Firecracker at Holiday World’s History

Originally debuting at LeSourdsville Lake Amusement Park in 1972. In 2002 that park closed for good. Then moved to a new home a few years later to Fun Spot in northeast Indiana. It wasn’t to last since then Fun Spot also closed for good in 2008. It remained hidden away until 2016 when Holiday World decided that this ride was worth restoring.

Firecracker at Holiday World does take its name from a now-defunct roller coaster from the park. Firecracker was the name of the first coaster at Holiday World. A very small and not altogether safe looking steel coaster that operated from 1981 to 1997.

Firecracker at Holiday World: Rider Experience

Once you enter the ride area you can choose from one of sixteen cars. Each will accommodate two riders per car. One seat belt and lap bar will have to be secured before your ride can begin. Once it does each set of four cars will spin around each other. At the same time, the complete ground that the cars sit on will also spin. In total, the ride will last for about a minute and thirty seconds. Once it comes to a complete stop you are able to lift your restraints and exit safely.

The Good Stuff

Without a doubt, our favorite thing about Firecracker at Holiday World is the theming. Everything about the look of this ride gives off carnival charm. The cars especially look great. At night time this looks breathtaking!

Any rider that is 36 inches can ride as long as they are accompanied by an adult supervisor. It’s always great to offer younger children the ability to ride something that isn’t just for kids. Adults also will find this a fun ride.

You find very few of this type of ride any longer. Good to see that this park is keeping a Calypso around and in such great condition.

The plot of land that this sits on gives a very carnival like vibe.

The Bad

While we like this type of ride it is one of the slowest of its kind. Depending on your taste that might be a good thing. For our taste, the lack of speed really hurt our fun factor.

Final Verdict

Firecracker at Holiday World was a good addition to this park. The restoration they did was worth the effort. Young kids and adults will have a great time spinning on this ride. However, If it was faster it would get a higher recommendation from us. Because of these reasons Firecracker gets a seven out of ten.
