Fury of the Nile at Worlds of Fun

Fury of the Nile at Worlds of Fun has been operating at the park since 1984, designed and manufactured by Intamin from their River Rafting Ride line. Riders board a circular raft and will brave the rapids. A staple of the theme park experience. Should, please all ages looking for a cool down from Kansas City heat. That is, if they get wet or not.

Fury of the Nile at Worlds of Fun Experience

Fury of the Nile at Worlds of Fun sits in the Africa Section at the backend of the park. It is located right past Boomerang and before Mamba. This ride will have a long line depending on temperatures. The hotter it is, the longer the line. So depending on the temp on the day you go, it would be wise to prioritize this ride to avoid an hour-plus line. Riders must be at least 46 inches to ride. You will be kept safe by a seat belt. You board the raft with it moving down the always-turning loading station, and pick any seat. Once the ride attendants have checked all the restraints, the fun can begin!

The rafts can seat up to six riders.

The fun begins with your raft being pushed out into the rapids. From here, you will experience ever more intense rapids with a finale inside of a cave. After the cave, a conveyer belt will bring your raft back up to the station. Just like with boarding, the raft never stops moving. Wait for an attendant to come over and give you the all-clear. Once they do, you are good to remove your restraint and exit the ride safely.

Fury of the Nile at Worlds of Fun: The Good

The land that Worlds of Fun sits on is magnificent. Fury of the Nile shows that off to remarkable effect. Each new area looks so picturesque. From the surrounding forest to the waterfall, this ride will please everyone in the looks department.

The raft coming to a turn with a waterfall to greet them.

Fury of the Nile is one of the best family attractions in the park. The round seating means you get to see each other’s faces as the anticipation builds for what is around the next bend.

The ride can get pretty exciting with, at times, good speed. But, with that speed, you also get the boat to spin at a good pace. Enough to make it exciting but not so much that it will make anyone queasy.

The Bad

A couple of things hold Fury of the Nile back from being a true standout. The biggest issue is that water rides should get you wet. Most rides on this have had us returning to the station with barely a drop on us. That might be preferable to some, but not for us. It gets hot in Kansas City!

The boats only sit six people, which is low for this type of ride. The smaller boat will come with more spinning. Installations like this that have bigger boats will barely spin at all, like Thunder River at Six Flags St. Louis. So it is a tradeoff. Our experience is that the bigger the raft, the more wet people will get. More weight will push the raft downward so the rapids will be fiercer.

Fury of the Nile at Worlds of Fun has tons of trees and plants surrounding the ride.

Since this is a family ride, we are sad to see that under 46-inch kids are turned away. Because our experience is that most rides like this will allow 42-inch and above riders as long as an adult accompanies them. Hopefully, the park will change that policy in the coming seasons.

Final Verdict

Fury of the Nile at Worlds of Fun is a fun addition to the park. It offers an exciting ride through a beautiful section of the park. It has some drawbacks, like the lack of soaking its riders, but we still really like this ride. Generally, with the list of issues, our score would be lower. However, this one is just a lot of fun. The problems may not make this a homerun, but it is a great family ride and shouldn’t be missed. Because of these reasons, Fury of the Nile at Worlds of Fun gets a seven and a half out of ten.

The raft has arrived safely back at the station.
