Prof John’s Flying Machines at Kentucky Kingdom

Prof John’s Flying Machines at Kentucky Kindom

Prof John’s Flying Machines at Kentucky Kingdom has been in operation since 2014. Designed and manufactured by Larson International from their Flying Scooter line. Riders sit in the professor’s machine and as the ride spins are able to manipulate a rudder which will allow you some control over the direction. Highly recommended for any who like a mild thrill, or those that love to spin.

Prof John’s Flying Machines Experience

Prof John’s Flying Machines is in a big tangle of rides. Neighbors with Cyclos, and with Lightning Run towering over it. The wait times are usually pretty standard. Unless the park is packed this is usually only a couple of minutes wait. You will need to be 48 inches in order to ride alone. However, anyone 36 inches, and above, can ride with an adult. You will be kept safe by a seatbelt. Once the ride attendant has checked all restraints the spinning can begin!

Prof John’s Flying Machines has a seatbelt that must be buckled in order to ride.

Once the ride starts the structure will begin to rotate. As it gains speed the force will cause your machine to fly at a curve. At any time, you are able to adjust a rudder which will change how the air flows over your machine. This will allow changing the direction significantly of your machine. The ride duration is about a minute and a half. When your machine has come to a complete stop, the ride attendant will give the all-clear. You are okay to exit the ride safely.

Prof John’s Flying Machines: The Good

Flat rides are a little boring if there isn’t enough variation to the forces that the ride offers. What we love about this ride is you are in control of that. The ride will spin indepentatly but you are in charge of that rudder. So if you just want to sit back and enjoy the spin then you can do that. If you want to make your machine jerk violently in the other direction, then you can also do that.

Prof John’s Flying Machines has a rider adjusting the rudder so thier machine is flying sideways.

This is about as good of a family flat ride as they come. As seasoned thrill-seekers, we love this. Yet, this is not going to scare the kids away. The ride has a fine balance that is rare to find. Only those that cannot spin almost at all will not enjoy this classic flying scooter ride.

The Bad

Very little to complain about here. The ride has a cool theme with its steampunk vibe. However, it is bare-bones in execution. No props around and nothing much done to the machines to actually make it immersive. Outside of that, we cannot think of any drawbacks.

Another rider has her machine sideways but the complete oppisote way.

Final Verdict

Prof John’s Flying Machines is a great addition to Kentucky Kingdom. About as perfect of a thrill machine as they come for families. Putting you in the control seat of how intense you want the ride is something we wish could be incorporated into more rides. Complaints are nitpicky and barely worth mentioning. It isn’t a perfect attraction. We highly doubt this will be anyone’s favorite ride at the park. But we also don’t think that anyone will dislike it either. Because of these reasons Prof John’s Flying Machines gets an eight out of ten.

This rider looks like they wanted the standard expierience and is barely manipulating the rudder at all.
