Time Traveler at Silver Dollar City

Time Traveler has been in operation at Silver Dollar City since 2018. This Mack Rides Xtreme Spinning Coaster is one fantastic ride. It sits high up on top of the many hills that populate Branson, Missouri. It uses its terrain to its benefit. Especially that first drop!

Time Traveler at Silver Dollar City has an amazing first drop

Time Traveler at Silver Dollar City just about to go down its first lift hill.

One of the greatest elements on any roller coaster I’ve ever been on is the first drop on Time Traveler. The further back in the train that you are sitting, then the better this drop will be. In the front it’s cool. You get some hangtime but it’s not very intense. In the back, the way that it whips you over that drop is frightening and breathtaking.

Time Traveler at Silver Dollar City has top-notch theming

Various drawings that show how the time device is going to work.

Silver dollar City‘s lineup of rides has above-average theming. Time Traveler is a step above. The Design of the trains is genius. They look like a time travel vehicle that you would see in a classic movie. The queue is just bursting with tons of theming. Once you get close to the roller coaster and see that amazing entrance sign then It is obvious that this roller coaster had a lot of love poured into it. Silver Dollar City is doing wonderful things by paying attention to the theme part of theme parks. In short, They are telling a story through props and images.

A clockmaker in the 1880s has inherited the family clockmaker shop. His name is Charles Henry and along with his daughter Emmaline, they are trying to improve the world. Their motto is “dream big, do good”. The Dream here is to help people by offering us the best possible options through time manipulation. It is great to see parks really putting this much thought into the theming of a ride. It really does heighten the experience!

More theming in the queue. Here shows the evolution of the construction of the time machine.

Time Traveler at Silver Dollar City Launches

Mack Rides wasn’t content with that devilishly good first drop. They had to go and put two launches into this coaster! The launches themselves are not very powerful, but they are fun and keep the pace up. It does reach the top speed of 50 mph, but speed is not the name of the game here. Obviously, the main course is spinning.

Spinning in control

This is only the second spinning roller coaster I have ever been on. The first being Pandemonium at Six Flags St. Louis. I can take the highest drops and the fastest Coasters. I never met an inversion that was too intense for me. However, spinning can really ruin a fun day. That is why I am so happy to report that this doesn’t spin uncontrollably. The computer system will only let you spin so fast. They also help every inversion feel more special than they would have otherwise. This helps keep the coaster intense but not so intense that I can’t marathon this one. Because of the spinning, marathoning never gets old. Since every time I ride Time Traveler, the spinning makes the ride feel different than any other ride I have had.

I only have one Issue

This is a masterpiece of a roller coaster yet it does have a flaw. About midway through the ride, the train comes to a complete stop. You hear the inventor say “Ready to Launch”. Then off you go again. Rumors suggest that this section was to have a show before being launched again. To my knowledge, that has never been confirmed, but it does make some sense. If there had been a themed experience before that launch I would look past the full stop. As it currently stands, I cannot be on board with fully stopping the trains.

Final Verdict

Time Traveler is an excellent addition to Silver Dollar City. Couple this with Outlaw Run and you have two of the most elite Coasters in the United States at this park. At a cost of $26 million the park really needed this to be a hit. It has theming pouring out of every crevice. I Believe that it was money well spent.

Silver Dollar City took Charles Henry’s advice to heart when creating this coaster. “dream big, do good.” On a scale of 1 to 10 I give Time Traveler at Silver Dollar City a 9.5.

The front of the trains have some time devices that cycle through some numbers.
Time Traveler is already a disorientating coaster as is. In the Rain it is even more so.

Pros: First Drop, Fun spinning, not out of control spinning, Theming everywhere, Launches

Cons: Mid-Course Stop run.
