Tornado at Six Flags St. Louis has been an operation since 2005 in Hurricane Harbor. Manufactured and designed by Pro Slide Technology Inc., this thrill water slide is great fun for you and your group.
Tornado at Six Flags: Overview
You can have up to four people, as long as everybody combined weighs under 1000 pounds. You grab the tube and walk up the stairs to an elevation of 48 feet. Once in the ride, the operator pushes you down a dark tunnel.
That dark tunnel leads to a banked turn. This leads to as steep of a hill that I can ever remember doing on any water slide. No matter your position on the raft that moment is exhilarating. That steep hill brings you into the main attraction. A huge funnel took at a pretty good speed where are you will go up almost feel that the raft is going to go out from underneath of you, and then to the other side each time going down the funnel a little bit more. Ending with a splashdown into the pool at the bottom.
Tornado at Six Flags: Fast and Fun
I would consider Tornado the most thrilling of the group water-slides in Hurricane Harbor. It is quite intimidating when your raft is about to plunge into the Funnel. Even an experienced thrill-seeker as I am, my adrenaline is pumping before getting into the raft.
Most attraction at amusement parks is designed to give you the feeling that you’re doing something not safe. However, that’s just an illusion. The Tornado really rides a very fine line with this type of feeling. It really feels like your raft is going to flip over that first time it hits the wall in the big funnel. Incredibly good fun as long as you’re prepared for it.
Carrying the raft is a pain
My least favorite aspect of Tornado comes from the extreme laborious effort it takes to bring that huge raft up those stairs. I like the Big Kahuna method where the slides are brought up by a conveyor belt. However I’m sure it’s an expensive operation, and that’s why it’s not done on every ride. Yet here I think it would’ve benefited.
Final Verdict
Tornado is an exciting water slide perfectly suited for the thrill-seekers in Hurricane Harbor. While bringing the raft to the top can be tiresome, I always have a great time once I get there. If Thrills are what you seek then you cannot go wrong with Tornado. On a scale of one to ten, I give Tornado an eight.
Pros: The Drop into the funnel, and the funnel itself, great looking
Cons: Carrying the raft to the top.
