Big Kahuna at Six Flags St. Louis has been in operation since June 5th of 1999. That makes this one of the original rides to Hurricane Harbor. Manufactured and designed by the very prolific Pro Slide Technology Inc. This fun slide is built for groups.
Big Kahuna at Six Flags: Overview
You and your group of five people, who total together less than one thousand pounds get on a circular raft and plummet down a 60-foot high water slide. The track altogether spans 636 feet, which gives just the right ride time.
The ride consists of a couple of elements repeated in a very fun way. You go down at a good clip, but nothing too fast, into some banked turns. Which gives the sensation, without the actual threat of flipping over. Rinse wash and repeat, until you get to the splashdown safely at the bottom pool.
Big Kahuna at Six Flags: Water Thrills for All
My favorite thing about Big Kahuna is that even the little ones can get in on the thrills. As long as your little one is 36 inches, or above they can ride with you. You have to be at least 42 inches to ride alone. Comparatively the other group water slides in Hurricane Harbor are designed upon big thrills for adults. This makes this one perfect for family outings.
What of the most tiresome aspects of the tube slides is getting a raft, and having to lug it all the way up to the top of the slide. With Big Kahuna, you don’t have to worry about that. Because a conveyor belt brings all of the Rafts up to the top for you. It’s a great convenience, and it makes standing in the line much easier.
Wait Times
But speaking of that line. My least favorite aspect of Big Kahuna has got to be the wait time you will spend. It is consistently the longest line in Hurricane Harbor. there’s just one slide to go down, instead of multiples. Also, this slide attracts families. Combine the two, and you end up with a consistently long line that doesn’t seem to move very fast. On an average day expect about 40 minutes to wait.
Final Verdict
Big Kahuna has provided many fun, and thrilling memories for me, and my family. It is designed to be a good introduction to thrilling water slides. On a scale of one to ten, I give Big Kahuna an eight and a half.
Pros: 36 inches and above ride, raft that you don’t have to carry
Cons: Long wait times daily
