Zambezi Zinger at Worlds of Fun Preview and Analysis

Zambezi Zinger at Worlds of Fun will be a brand new Hybrid Titan Track roller coaster for the 2023 season! The coaster will be a collaboration between Great Coasters International (GCI) and Skyline Attractions. The wait is finally over! Once this premieres next year it will mark the end of a fourteen-year drought without a new coaster. Let’s take a look at what this new roller coaster will offer.

Zambezi Zinger at Worlds of Fun Preview

This will be built behind where Boomerang calls home in the Africa section. Wisely it is being built in the secluded woods which we think always makes wooden coasters better. It will start with a spiral lift hill that pays homage to the original Zambezi Zinger which ran at Worlds of Fun from 1973-1997. Then it will rocket down the 74-foot drop which will get the Infinity Flyer Trains to their top speed of 45 mph. From here it will stay low to the ground which will give a huge sensation of speed. Twisting and turning in ways that look impossible for a wooden coaster. That is because it is made with GCI’s new Hybrid Titan Track. So what is Hybrid Titan Track?

It takes some of what makes wooden coasters so special but adds a layer of steel which will make them smoother and less likely to get rougher as the years go by. Even traditional wooden coasters have steel in them. On top and bottom of the wood which the wheels of the coaster run across. But that is usually just a layer of it. This is like placing a traditional steel coaster onto a wooden support structure.

The benefit to this is that it can make turns and have elements that would be impossible on a traditional wooden coaster. Add to this the Infinity Flyer Trains that are built specifically to handle these quick and intense elements and you will have a coaster that helps (hopefully) it stand out above the two wooden coasters already at the park.

Our concerns

The park already offers the Dinn corporation classic with Timber Wolf and a modern wooden coaster with the criminally underrated Prowler. Since this offers the Hybrid Titan Track we were hoping for some inversions to help set this one apart. After all the park has only Patriot to offer any inversions on a coaster. What we have with Zambezi Zinger at Worlds of Fun looks just a little too much like Prowler.

The trains will only seat 16 per train with a total of 2 trains. That could make this a huge problem with capacity. It is possible that the ride ops will be able to get those trains out of the station fast, but experience tells us that lines for this one will be long on most days.

But these are concerns and not issues for now. We will not pass judgment until it opens and we get to experience the ride instead of analyzing screenshots and CGI mockup videos.

Final Thoughts

We love that as Worlds of Fun is celebrating its 50th anniversary that the park is investing to make it special. Even better by naming it the Zambezi Zinger, they are looking back to pave the way for the future. We are a little concerned with it being another wooden coaster, and that it won’t differ enough from Prowler to make it worth it. Add that to what we foresee with long lines and this all adds up to a coaster with a lot of question marks.

Long lines and maybe a sense of deja-vu won’t ruin the excitement. Regardless of some of our concerns, this looks like an exciting roller coaster to add to the 7 the park already offers. We cannot wait to ride Zambezi Zinger at Worlds of Fun in 2023!
