Turkey Whirl at Holiday World has been in operation since 2007. Designed and manufactured by Larson International from their Tilt-A-Whirl Model. This is a rather intense spinning ride. Only recommended for those that really like to spin.
Turkey Whirl Rider Experience
Anyone over 36 inches can ride with an adult, and 48 to ride unsupervised. You can fit up to four riders in each Turkey. To keep you safe there is one lap bar for all riders. Once the ride attendant has confirmed that all are safely secured the spinning can begin. The ride has 7 Turkeys to sit in and form a circle. In that circle are tiny hills. When the ride begins the turkeys will spin in that circle. Also, they will spin independently on their own.
The type of spin that the individual Turkeys have can be described as whippy. Even though the ride doesn’t ever get very fast it still is rather intense. This lasts for about a minute and a half at which time it will begin to slow. Once the ride has come to a complete stop you are safe to exit.
Turkey Whirl: The Good
Walking up to Turkey Whirl you will see The Voyage towering over this in comparison small ride. While it might look small you should not underestimate this one. The ride itself doesn’t spin very fast. It is how the turkeys themselves spin that is the good stuff. Of course, this could also be a bad thing if you don’t like to spin.
As we said in our review of Gobbler Getaway there is something awesome about a ride being themed to turkeys. It makes this ride feel very charming.
The Bad
There really isn’t much to this ride. It has that common complaint with many flat rides. Turkey Whirl feels very repetitive. Even at a length of a minute and a half, you might be relieved when it starts slowing down. Flat rides are at their best when they can alter the forces felt during the ride.
Final Verdict
Turkey Whirl was a good addition to Holiday World. If you like spinning then this will do the trick. We think that with some difference in motion the ride would not feel so repetitive. Yet, it is the Turkey-theming that keeps pulling us back to this ride. Because of these reasons Turkey Whirl gets a six out of ten.
