Mighty Galleon at Silver Dollar City

Mighty Galleon has been in operation at Silver Dollar City since 2006. This Swinging Pirate Ship ride was designed and manufactured by Zamperla. This family ride is located in the Grand Exposition section of the park. It is a fun ride for families. However, it is a little less intense than other swinging pirate ships we have experienced.

Mighty Galleon Rider Experience

You will be assigned a row by the attendant which will impact your experience. Once you sit, there is one lap bar to secure riders per row. Once the ride ops give the thumbs up the pirate ship begins its swinging. It is the familiar up and down motion of these rides. Getting higher and higher then steadily decreasing till it comes to a full stop. Once the lap bar is released, you can exit the ship safely.

The area that Mighty Galleon sits on is surrounded by trees.
This shot was early in the season. It looks even better once all the trees come to life.

Mighty Galleon: The Good

The quality of the craftsmanship here is great. The ship itself is just so good-looking. The detail on it is amazing. As is the case with every ride at Silver Dollar City, the plot of land that this ride sits on is breathtaking.

Swinging Pirate Ship rides are so popular at Theme Parks for a very good reason. The forces felt on these are wonderful. This ride doesn’t reinvent the wheel on this ride type but that isn’t a bad thing. This is a fun ride that the whole family can ride together. You only need to be 36 inches to ride with an accompanying adult.

The Bad

Mighty Galleon has one thing baked into its design that really frustrated us. Towards the center of the ride, where it is less thrilling, seats the most people. The higher up the ship you go the fewer people can sit together. That is the seat everyone wants! Really a bewildering design flaw for a ride like this.

It isn’t the most thrilling either for rides like this. Most go higher up and at a faster rate. While we would consider most rides like this a family ride, Mighty Galleon is a little more little kid-friendly than most others we have ridden.

Final Verdict

Mighty Galleon is fun for the whole family. It has nothing new to add to this type of ride but that is okay. The only real issue that is really holding this back is the fewer seats for the better parts of the ship. Because of these reasons, Mighty Galleon on a scale of one to ten gets a six and a half.
