Superman Tower Of Power 2021 Update
This post is now to be considered archived. Six Flags St. Louis has announced that Superman Tower of Power will be removed for the 2021 season. All told, The Man of Steel entertained us for 15 years. Wish we still had some time with this ride. I loved this ride. Six Flags STL Ride Removals for my post on this topic.
Superman Tower Of Power: Overview and Analysis
The name sounds like a drinking game, for college students. Instead, think drops, and not shots. Superman’s origin story begins as an Intamin drop tower, at Six Flags Astroworld as “Dungeon Drop”. Upon its sad closing in 2005, it was put into a capsule, before the demolishing would begin, and flown to its current home of Six Flags St. Louis.
The Intamin Drop Tower was a huge success. 2nd generation much more than the first. Superman Tower Of Power stands about the middle of the road, for the size of such installations. Standing at 230 ft., with a maximum speed of 60 MPH.
I personally love this ride. Since I go to Theme Parks way more than your average person, I am not easily intimidated by many rides, any longer. Yet I find that there is still, after all these years a bit of apprehension with Superman Tower of Power. I don’t know if that will ever go away. The fear I have when sitting at the top, waiting for the free-fall is nerve-racking. Even after having ridden it well over one hundred times now.
Superman vs other Intamin drop towers
A couple of things stand out to me specifically about Superman Tower Of Power at Six Flags St. Louis. First, the queue line has a bunch of bios on Superman’s friends, and enemies. I always love when theming gives something to read. I am a huge fan of the character Superman, so I might be a little biased on loving the total theming.
Second, this happens to sit very close to my favorite roller coaster in the park, which is Screamin’ Eagle. You could say that I am a little obsessive. If you are sat on one of the seats that overlook the Screamin’ Eagle you will get a rare chance to see the structure unlike before. Last, this might be hard to explain, but many people who travel to Six Flags St. Louis report that there is something better than most about Superman Tower Of Power when compared to other Intamin drop towers. I know what they mean, yet struggle to explain why. Maybe since Six Flags sits on a curved hill, the angle gives a better sensation of speed? Regardless of why, I will agree that yes, this one stands out as one of the better installations of the Intamin drop tower.
I find very little to complain about Superman. The only complaints I have are based on how management at Six Flags St. Louis uses this. This ride is down a lot. I believe due to staffing, and not to maintenance issues. When it does run they only use half the cars.
Final Verdict
Superman Tower Of Power is one of my favorite flat rides at Six Flags, St. Louis. It is beautiful at the top, and the drop just never gets old. On a scale of one to ten, I give Superman Tower Of Power a nine.
Pros: Line queue theming, above average drop, View of Screamin’ Eagle
Cons: Closed to often, half capacity
