Mustang Runner at Worlds of Fun Review

Mustang Runner at Worlds of Fun has been operating since 2017, designed and manufactured by Huss from their 2nd generation Troika model. Riders spin counterclockwise while changes of elevation and tilt are constantly shifting. Mustang Runner is a family spinning ride that is intense enough to be considered a thrill ride.

Mustang Runner at Worlds of Fun Experience

This 2nd generation HUSS Troika sits in the middle of the park in the Wild West section, past Detonator and close to Falcon’s Flight. This ride loads slowly. So if a line has formed, you will be waiting a while. We recommend trying to ride this early in the day to avoid a long line. Riders must be 50 inches to ride alone, but anyone between 50 and 42 can ride if an adult accompanies them. You will be kept safe by a safety belt and a lap bar. Once the ride attendant has checked all restraints, get ready to spin!

The ride has three arms with seven cars attached to each. Each arm will begin to spin its seven cars when the ride starts. Next, the arms will slowly tilt as the structure begins to turn. The tilting is, so you go low to the ground and swing upward. Finally, they will start lowering back to the starting position at the halfway point. All told, the ride duration is about 2 minutes. Once the ride has come to a complete stop, the ride attendant will give the all-clear. Then, you can undo the restraint and exit the ride safely.

Mustang Runner at Worlds of Fun: The Good

This ride feels more intense than you would think. The open-air cars and the tight rotation are the keys here. The distribution of force is constantly shifting throughout the ride. Our favorite is the midpoint. The diving towards the ground to be quickly pulled back up is unique. We still think of this as a family ride but just one of the more intense out there.

The ride is at the mid-point with full tilt.

Mustang Runner is an attractive ride. We always take note of a ride that people stop and watch as they walk by. The color scheme and ride motion seem to draw you in. This creates a fun section to gather. Better yet, get in line and ride it!

The Bad

The ride will be too intense for some. Hopefully, those that hate spinning will stay away but be warned that this is way more intense than it looks. We love this ride, but no way we could never marathon it. This is a ride once and then take a break type of ride. Of course, this is subjective, and your experience might vary from ours. Also, depending on your tolerance, this might be a plus if you love this type of thing.

The ride takes a very long time to load. Get comfortable if the line has backed up enough that you won’t be on the next cycle. Not a complaint about the workers; it just seems to be baked into the nature of this ride. They have to count the number of people so they can be assigned to a car. There are always issues there. Then when that is straightened out, each of the twenty-one cars needs to have both restraints checked. Then the attendants have to get back to their posts. If all of that takes less than five minutes, it’s a miracle.

Final Verdict

Mustang Runner at Worlds of Fun is an excellent addition to the park. This is a must-ride as long as the day isn’t too busy and you love the intensity. There is a sense of fun surrounding this ride, from those on and those just watching. Worlds of Fun has such a great collection of Flats like this. While we don’t think this is the best, that honor goes to Cyclone Sams, but this is up there. Because of these reasons, we give Mustang Runner at Worlds of Fun a nine out of ten.
