Fjord Fjarlane at Worlds of Fun has a minimalist sign that sits on the back of the operator station.

Fjord Fjarlane at Worlds of Fun

Fjord Fjarlane at Worlds of Fun has been in operation since 1981. Designed and manufactured by Meisho Rides from their Swing Around line. Riders are spun around while each gondola will lift to different angles. A decent family ride that offers mild thrills.

Fjord Fjarlane at Worlds of Fun Experience

Fjord Fjarlane at Worlds of Fun sits right at the front of the park, in the Scandinavia Section. Located right next to The Grand Carrousel and Viking Voyager. It is rare to find a long wait for this ride. So there is no need to prioritize this ride for wait time reasons. Though do take note that the park will usually open this ride prior to park opening. Riders must be at least 46 inches in order to ride alone. However, as long as accompanied by an adult rider, those under 46 can ride as well. You will be kept safe by a seat belt, and lap bar. Once the ride attendants have checked all the restraints, the fun can begin!

Once the ride is in motion it will be spinning at a nice speed. To help break up the motion the gondolas will periodically shift from lower to the ground to higher and at an angle. The total ride time is just shy of 2 minutes. Once the ride has come to a complete stop, the ride attendant will give the all-clear. You can undo your restraints and exit the ride safely.

Fjord Fjarlane at Worlds of Fun: The Good

Flat rides that just do the same thing over and over again get old real fast. With Fjord Fjarlane the gondolas rising and lowering makes it so that the forces felt are constantly changing. This helps in making this ride not wear out its welcome.

During the haloween season pumpkins are scattered around this ride. That with the ride are shown.

Our favorite thing about this ride is its forgiving height requirements. With a 46-inch requirement to ride alone, everyone else can ride as long as they are able to sit up, and they are with an adult. Lots of good family memories can be made here!

The Bad

There are a lot of little issues that hold this ride from being special. Like how slow it is to get going and then again how slow it is to stop. The ride is two minutes long but a good chunk of that is waiting for it to get going, and then again waiting for it to slow down. What we think of as prime ride time is fun, just needs more of it.

Speaking of the prime ride time, while fun, it isn’t going to wow anyone. It doesn’t get fast enough to really offer many thrills. When the gondolas shift angle it isn’t done in an abrupt way to give that out-of-control feeling. We won’t say it is bad, just doesn’t do anything well enough to make this a standout.

Final Verdict

Fjord Fjarlane at Worlds of Fun is a decent addition to the park. This is an older model and it shows. We have ridden much better models like this, Ricochet at Six Flags Great America is one, so we know how good of a ride this could be. Still, it is fun especially when you have a young one with you. Just wish it was either a little faster or snappier. Since what we are left with doesn’t excel at anything. Because of these reasons, Fjord Fjarlane at Worlds of Fun gets a five and a half out of ten.
