Tin Lizzies at Kentucky Kingdom

Tin Lizzies at Kentucky Kingdom has been in operation since 1990. Designed and manufactured by Arrow Dynamics from their Antique Car line. Riders can take these classic Model A roadsters out for a lazy drive through the scenic countryside. With its pretty setting and decent theming, this is a drive worth taking.

Tin Lizzies Experience.

Tin Lizzies are located pretty close to the front of the park. Right past the excellent Lightning Run and is neighbors with King Louie’s Playland. Since these Antique Cars attract a lot of families, the line can get very long for this. We do recommend hitting this one up early in the day if possible. Though the line will move pretty fast even when it is full. Riders must be at least 48 inches tall if they will be driving the Model A roadster. Additionally, any riders between 42 and 48 can ride with an accompanying adult. When your group is sat down, the ride attendant will give you some rules to follow. Once the speech is over, it is time for your ride to begin!

Once you set out in your Tin Lizzy, you will notice that the ride is made to look like a fun stroll through the countryside in decades long past. Of course, there is the towering coaster that you will just have to look past. There are some tunnels, great landscaping, and enough theming to really make this a fun experience. The ride duration is around 3 minutes. Once you get close to the exit a ride attendant will take control of the Model A roadster. Once they do you are good to exit the ride safely.

Tin Lizzies: The Good

These antique cars look fantastic. The park has kept them in great working shape. From the outside, we would say these are the best-maintained cars for a ride like this we have experienced. Also, the inside of the cars themselves has been taken great care of. The fact that these aren’t some generic vehicle matters. With iconic brands like Chevrolet and Ford, it helps to cement the theme of driving around back in time.

The station makes it look like a 50's gas station.

The drive is relaxing and has enough variability to keep it interesting. Rides like these can go a little stale if it is all very compact. Drive in a circle and come back isn’t the right method for these rides. Instead with these at Kentucky Kingdom, it feels like you really are driving away from it all. Also, add in the weirdness of having a road next to this ride for that bit of bizarre that this park is full of.

While it is Roller Coasters that get us to travel to so many theme parks it is the family rides that we believe are the lifeblood of a theme park. Seeing families packed into their Model A roadster while laughing and building memories is what it is all about. Tin Lizzies is just one of those perfect rides for families to experience together.

The Bad

While there is a great mixup in what you see on the track, sadly it is rather short. We won’t say it is criminally short. Just long enough to be fine but it does seem to be over too quickly. This is understandable since the park doesn’t exactly have any undeveloped land in which to expand this ride. If the biggest complaint about a ride is that it is fun, but you want more of it, then that is a good sign.

The only other issue we have is a complaint that is common in our reviews Kentucky Kingdom. The height restrictions on this seem a little overboard. 48 inches in order to drive in our opinion is too restrictive. These cars drive on a rail and as long as there is an accompanying adult then that restriction should be loosened some. Also, why are those under 42 not allowed to ride at all? Other parks that have rides of this kind do not have the same restrictions. These policies do hurt it since some families won’t be able to ride it.

Final Verdict

Tin Lizzies at Kentucky Kingdom is a great addition to the park. With its beautiful and iconic cars driving around the countryside we think just about everyone will like this ride. We do wish it was longer and that the height restrictions were loosened some. However, that doesn’t stop this ride from just being a blast. Because of these reasons Tin Lizzies gets an eight and a half out of ten.
