Holidog Express at Holiday World has been in operation since 2013. This ridable miniature train ride is more of a themed experience. Parents and kids hanging out in the kid’s section Holidog’s FunTown should enjoy this.
Holidog Express Rider Experience
You walk up to the train station which sets the mood with some nursery rhyme characters hanging out as decorations. Once you are able to board you can pick your seat. Each row will only seat 2 comfortably but 3 or 4 is possible depending on their size. Once the ride begins you will have the ride op/engineer tell you nursery rhymes while you pass big statues of their characters.
The train will just make a big circle and end up back in its station again about 2 minutes after the ride begins. Once the train comes to a complete stop you are able to exit safely.
Holidog Express: The Good
We are always on the lookout for new types of ride experiences. This Holiday World train certainly is that. Younger kids especially will appreciate what this ride is trying to do. Which is to be a kid’s ride.
The train itself was extremely well kept. This is a theme with Holiday World. They keep impeccable shape of all of their rides. The fact that this is a kid ride and looks this good is very impressive.
The Bad
We really didn’t care for this ride. However, I think this is more to do with our expectations than issues with the ride itself. We love train rides at theme parks. They either serve as transportation or very long relaxing rides. A scenic tour of the park is a must! This Holiday World train is doing that except only for kids. If you go in expecting a normal train ride like we were you will leave confused and disappointed.
Still, even though this is a kid ride we think that it is still just too short. Two minutes is just not long enough.
Final Verdict
Holidog Express is a fun addition to the park. While we wish that a real Holiday World train was instead operating, this will do the trick for its target audience. That is young kids and their adult supervisors. Still, this feels like a big missed opportunity. Because of these reasons Holidog Express gets a five out of ten.
