Boomerang at Six Flags St. Louis

Boomerang has been operating at Six Flags St. Louis since 2013. It was designed and manufactured by Vekoma. Boomerang began operation under the name Flashback at Six Flags over Texas in 1989 till 2012.

Boomerang again?

I don’t think I need to describe what a Boomerang is. Yet, in case you need to be brought up to speed, it is the most mass-produced roller coaster ever built. Heck, it might be one of the most mass-produced rides ever built. It doesn’t matter if you’re at a Six Flags, Cedar Fair park, or your local amusement park, chances are you will find Boomerang. Maybe hiding out under a different name.

There is a fascinating topic that goes throughout the coaster community on the subject of whether, or not a cloned Coaster hurts the ride itself. I am of the opinion that it does not. It might make me less excited for it, but I will still enjoy the ride for what it is, regardless of how many other variations of it I have already ridden.

Boomerang at Six Flags St. Louis highlights

As for this specific installation at my home park Six Flags St. Louis, I can say that I like the color scheme. The green and orange really do pop very well. Also one of my favorite views of Six Flags St. Louis is from Boomerang. When it goes up the first lift hill backward-looking out over the park. It is a nice calm before the storm.

My favorite thing about this Boomerang is the location of the Cobra Roll. It actually hangs out into the main pathway. On any given day, you will find masses of people hanging out there, and watching friends, or family on the ride. Case in point, I rode this by myself once with my wife, and two daughters (the girls aren’t tall enough to ride it yet) were down there waving at me as I was going through the Cobra Roll. It was a truly special moment.

Boomerang at Six Flags St. Louis issues

As for what I don’t like about the specific Boomerang is that it seems rougher than others. For instance, the way that the train catches on the second left hill. The trains give a violent jerk, so brace yourself. It’s an aging and relocated roller coaster, and it shows.

Six Flags St. Louis already has a classic looper in their lineup with The Ninja. While this coaster does at least add the element of going backward, I think having such a similar coaster already in the park does make this one a rather odd choice.

Final Verdict

As with all Boomerangs, I really love going through the loop backward. That element alone is worth me riding this. Also, there is something to be said for a good thrill Coaster that can sit on a small plot of land as Boomerang is. Yes, throw a rock, and hit a Boomerang, yet I still enjoy this. On a scale of one to ten, I give Boomerang a seven.

Pros: Cobra Roll interactions, Color scheme

Cons: Showing its age
