Wildfire at Silver Dollar City

Wildfire made its debut in 2001 at Silver Dollar City. Designed by Werner Stengel for Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M). This type of ride is commonly known as a B&M Looper. Wildfire is known for being a remarkably smooth ride in a picturesque setting.

Wildfire at Silver Dollar City Theming

Wildfire at Silver Dollar City has a lot of theming. Here we see one of his tanks.

Silver Dollar City has some of the finest themed roller coasters in the United States. Wildfire is no exception to this. The story goes that in 1880, Dr. Horatio Harris is trying to develop a new flying machine. Entering the queue you’ll be able to see his offices and eventually take part in his experiment. Throughout the queue, you will see tons of props and posters filling you in on the details.

You are able to see the good doctors office in the queue.

Wildfire at Silver Dollar City is Beautiful

When you get to the top of the chain lift hill you can see the Ozarks going on for miles. To say it is breathtaking doesn’t do it justice. I spend most of my time riding this just trying to take in the beauty.

Rider Experience

The Train about to start climbing the chain lift hill.

Wildfire stands at 155 feet with a max speed of 66 mph. It has the over-the-shoulder restraints that you would find commonly on roller coasters of this type. The over-the-shoulder restraints are by far my least favorite restraint because when coasters get rough you end up banging your head on them. However, that is not an issue on Wildfire. Even though this coaster isn’t brand new it is still an extremely smooth ride. So whether going down the airtime-filled first drop or going through its Immelmann loop there is no discomfort.

An Immelmann and an adorable little girls watching her dad.

Negatives

Wildfire never seems to get a lot of attention. Its line seems to be noticeably shorter than about every other roller coaster in the park. I think it’s because aside from the scenic setting there is nothing outstanding about this coaster. It has five inversions yet none of them really stand out. They’re fun and smooth but none of them ever give an extremely intense experience. As a matter of fact, when a coaster’s main point is inversions they should try to pack a punch.

All the Coasters at Silver Dollar City feel unique and special. Though I don’t have that with Wildfire. That is to say this is a perfectly good coaster. Without a doubt if this coaster was at most any other park it would be a highlight. While it may be a little unfair to call it underwhelming it just doesn’t call to me like all the other coasters at Silver Dollar City.

Final Verdict

Wildfire would be one of the best roller coasters in almost any other park. Yet it Has to compete with the roller coaster lineup at Silver Dollar City. This is not a bad roller coaster by any stretch of the imagination. It’s smooth, fast, and the scenery takes the breath away. On a scale of 1 to 10 I gave wildfire a 7.5.
